Why is this series called "Jungle"?

In March 2025, my wife had a cerebral infarction. After 14 days in the Scheper Hospital in Emmen, she was transferred to the De Horst rehabilitation clinic. Many patients with brain problems end up in De Horst. In addition to rehabilitation, a selection is made there between people who will be able to go home eventually and resume their old lives, and people who will be permanently placed in a nursing home and therefore will never be able to live independently again.

During my wife's stay at De Horst, two things struck me: Firstly, the sad situation on this (closed) ward. People were "locked up" on the ward all day and could not go outside. And also the dedication of the nursing staff. Those nurses at De Horst do their utmost for their patients day and night. However, the truth is that only a small percentage of patients fully recover.

I dedicate this series of candles to the staff of De Horst. These people are all very kind.
